Pretty neat blog!…Any thoughts on discussing supplements!?
Taral,
Thanks for stopping by. Please give us any feedback to make the site better.
Good idea. I can at least share with people what I take daily.
Hello Dr. Patel,
My 12 month old son is now drinking organic whole milk. Since this transition, about a week, I have noticed that his nose is runny. What are your thoughts on whole milk for toddlers? What, if any, are adequate aternatives? Please advise. (I love your recipes!)
Thank you so much,
Rosanne
Rosanne,
I would suggest that everyone avoid dairy products for multiple reasons. When I do Food Intolerance testing on a patient we find that many of them are intolerant to milk and other dairy products. You may consider Goat’s milk as it tends to be better tolerated than cow’s milk. In an ideal world RAW organic milk would be your best (not perfect) option. Make sure he is getting lots of fruits and veggies (mostly veggies)
He is showing signs of a milk intolerance so get him off of it for now.
Keep me posted
Love this site. I’ve found it extremely helpful. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions on what type of cookware is the safest to use? I’ve heard pros and cons for aluminum, steel and non-stick.. Thanks!
Hi Robina
We use cookware from Le Creuset. Our stir fry pans and skillets are hard anodized steel. We do not use “non-stick” because the teflon coating can leach into your food and some reports suggest it an cause cancer. I use aluminum sauce pans. You can also use aluminum skillets but I find that food is prone to sticking to it. Cast iron cookware is also good for cooking, although one of the cons is that it is quite heavy. Hope that helps.
Hi Dr. Patel,
My name is Sanjeni and I am in my last term of chiropractic school. One of my girlfriends forwarded me to your website. I wanted to collaborate with you and see if I can send you some information on diet and fibromyalgia. I have been working with an ND to manifest a protocol for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. If you are interested and would like to communicate with me further please email me at sanjenipatel@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you soon and appreciate your time.
Thanks,
Sanjeni Patel MPH
Hey. I would be happy to look over your protocol to see if I may help. Please email it to me and I can give you some insight.
I do functional medicine so I may be able to give you some pointers.
Being an Indian teen, it is very tough to eat healthy, especially when your mothers cooking is so good. Thank you for sharing some healthy alternatives on some of my favorite recipes. I’m currently doing P90X (phase 2 and lost 20 lbs!, i know i was fat, 200lbs now, height 6’0) and have maintained 50/30/20 diet. Protein, carb, fat. Its been over a month and i am going strong. Any Indian dish high in protein but without skipping out on taste?
Harsh,
Thanks for reading. Glad to hear you are doing well on P90X, it’s a good program.
Do you eat meat? If not, lentils, chick peas, kidney beans, nuts and seeds, mung beans and rice protein shakes are all vegan sources of high quality protein.
I hope that helps
Yes i do eat meat. Ive recently started taking Shakeology as a breakfast replacement. Its a product from Beachbody and i think it is the best shake out on the market. No other even comes close to the quality of the products they have on there. I highly recommend you check it out and see for yourself. It has 70+ ingredients, selected from around the world, grown in the fertile soils of remote regions of the earth. Im just going to name some of them.AMARANTH, CAMU-CAMU, GOJI BERRY, SACHA INCHI, SPROUTED QUINOA, ACEROLA CHERRY, MAITAKE MUSHROOM, MACA ROOT, CHIA SEEDS, ASHWAGANDAHA , SCHISANDRA , COCOA and SUMA ROOT. it has over 70 of these, plus it tastes really good. Comes in chocolate and Greenberry (i personally like and have chocolate). You should look into it and see if you can make this into a daily staple of your lifestyle.
Do you have any recipes for Amaranth? I hear it’s loaded with protein and considered gluten free.
Mark. You are right it is loaded with protien and also gluten free.
Dipa just bought some today! We will post something soon!
Dr. Patel,
I’m glad I stumbled on your information in a recent Home & Decor Ideas magazine that just came in the mail. On February 28th, I changed my nutrition drastically based on the book by Dr. Esselstyn, “Preventing and Reversing Heart Disease.” I am a Physical Therapist in Lebanon and consider myself healthy but I knew my diet was not the best. I am also reading the China Study, by a Dr. Caldwell. Just by eating healthier, I’ve dropped 11 pounds in 26 days. I’m at 202 and have an athletic build but feel I should probably be around 175-180 for my 6 foot frame. I have not lost all of my cravings for things like steak, chicken and cheese but quickly found that I really like almond milk. I had salmon with dinner last evening which goes against Dr. Esselstyn’s diet but I am going to try to eliminate it all together. I’m struggling with not having any oils in what I cook, which is another thing Dr. E insists you avoid all together. I hope to meet up with you at some point and in the mean time, thank you for posting all the recipes and for your informative blog. – Ryan S. Gephart, PT
Ryan, thanks for reading and writing to me. Glad to see you are making positive changes in your diet. It always pays off. Although no oils should be heated in an ideal world you may consider coconut oil and grapeseed oil since they are more heat stable. Good job dropping some weight in a healthy way!
You can also cook with broth instead of oils.
Good job. I would love to have you at a health seminar!
Dr.Patel,
Thank you for sharing wonderful recipes with us. Definately an inspiration for healthy cooking & healthy living. I read on one of you responses that you do food intolerance testing… the reason I mention this is, I have several GI issues, can’t seem to really figure out exactly what the issue is, I’ve had GI tests done, Hida Scan, Abd. U/S, both scopes and everything came back normal…however I still suffer from these issues. I’ve been trying to keep a food diary, but that is also not helping much because I could eat the same foods twice and react once, and not the other time…however, I might have some sort of lactose intolerance, I say this because of the symptoms I get when I eat ice creams & my favorite dessert creme brule.
Also have you ever heard of anyone being allergic to , mutton or green chillis?
I look forward to hearing from you @ hetal119@gmail.com.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING ALL YOUR RECIPES!
Dr. Patel,
I had my thyroid out due to a growth that was benign, but now even though blood work looks good, I can’t lose any weight. I have a cousin who went on Lepterra and she has never felt better. How can I purchase this product?
Renee
Renee,
Where do you live. We carry the product in our office. We can also drop ship it to you if you cannot find it. It is only sold through physicians as far as I know.
Regarding your thyroid. Thyroid hormone is metabolized in the liver and in the gut (by bacteria). It is more important to measure conversion and not just how much you make or take. I can consult you over the phone to dig a little deeper and uncover your health concerns. I am here to help!
Do you do the kind of work that Dr. Jernigan of the Hansa Center in Wichita, KS does, in terms of bioresonance scanning of the body and fixing imbalances and broken circuits, etc…? I was given a link by a former doctor from that clinic that led me to you as being the closest doctor who does “functional medicine.” Just wondering if you do the same work Dr. Jernigan does. Thank you.
KP
I’m a functional medicine provider and integrative lifestyle management specialist. I do not provide bioresonance scanning, although I would be more than happy to help you out if you require functional medicine services.
Great website! Couldn’t stop reading all the recipes and I’m definitely going to try your weekly menu – starting next week! I especially like that you have the week’s grocery list set-up. Make’s life easier. Thanks!
I was wondering if you have any suggestions on protein powders? I use protein powders primarily to add protein to our family’s diet and not because we are working out or trying to gain muscle mass etc. Also, any thoughts on adding the protein powder to a toddler’s diet? Is it okay for them too?
Hi Tejal,
Thanks for the feedback! That’s our goal – to make life healthier and easier for people!
As for suggestions on protein powders, we recommend a protein sold in our office called UltraLean made by Biogenesis. It is available in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry banana. If you like, we can bring it for you to try when we come to town in 2 weeks. As for adding protein powder to a toddlers diet, I would not recommend adding it to their diet until after the age of 3. Let me know if you have any other questions.
